Stonehenge Aotearoa in the Wairarapa
Wairarapa has many claims, including been the holiday home to the nation’s capital, Wellington, with it’s abundance of wines, wilderness and a white kiwi.
Wairarapa is a region of big skies, wide valleys and small towns, full of character – and a lot of off-the-beaten-track charm. With three major forest parks and a wild stretch of coast it offers endless possibilities for outdoor adventures or just getting away from it all.
It’s also one of New Zealand’s top food and wine destinations, the Wiararapa Wine Trail, producing some of the country’s premium wines. Visitor experiences include everything from country cooking to fine cuisine in the many cafes, vineyards and restaurants – about an hour’s drive north of Wellington.
Accommodation ranges from boutique hotels to homestay cottages. Having a car for transport works best; it’s a big area.
